This week our family are in that awful time after losing a loved one and the day we all say 'goodbye', the one comforting thought being that Mum is now reunited with Dad.
As sad as this is for us as a family they both have a special connection to In a Sticky Pickle. The story of our Green Tomato Chutney, is also a happy story that I've mentioned before; a childhood memory that is a comfort and makes Mum feel especially close at the moment.
For those of you that aren't aware, our Green Tomato Chutney is a seasonal special made with tomatoes grown by us in the greenhouse inherited from Dad (that's Robert), and made to Mum's (that's Kathleen) green tomato chutney recipe.
I remember as a child it always being on our Christmas tea table, it always felt a treat along with lots of other goodies which were special for Christmas. I don't think I'm that old but we had special foods that we looked forward to during the festive period, and to be honest I think we enjoyed it more then, than we do as now, as so many Christmas foods are available most of the year and are not the special treats they were then.
Anyway enough of the 'in the good old days'...
Starting and working on our own food business had always been a dream, again inspired by Mum and Dad. I grew up and working in their fish and chip shops and in the later years, David joining Dad preparing and frying the fish and chips, which gave us, I think, a good work ethic and the drive to start In a Sticky Pickle, and for that I will be forever grateful.
This year, we think a fitting tribute is to rename our Green Tomato Chutney to 'Robert & Kathleen's Green Tomato Chutney'.
