Nectarine & Pecan Plait

Now I know this isn't an ingredient you would expect to find in a dessert but trust me it's an amazing addition, with the fragrant spices of cardamom and cumin and a little heat from the chilli it makes the unusual fabulous!

A really easy dessert and as with lots of my makes there are no real rules, any quantities I put in are based on our meals which is a family of 3.

You will need:

In a Sticky Pickle's Sweet & Spicy Nectarine Chutney

1 pack of ready made puff pastry

2 nectarines (3 if they are small)

1dsp soft brown sugar

50-60g of chopped pecans

1 egg or milk

Sprinkle of granulated sugar

Pre heat your oven to 180 fan

Place baking paper on your baking sheet

Roll out the pre rolled puff pastry so its flat, if you have a block of pastry roll it out on a floured surface until approx 5mm thick. Cut the pastry into a rectangle 10" x 12"

Peel, destone and slice the nectarines thinly roughly 3mm and lay down the centre 1/3 of the pastry, sprinkle over the fruit the brown sugar, if your nectarines are sweet the sugar can be left out. Scatter the chopped pecans along the nectarines and dot the Sweet & Spicy Nectarine Chutney over the fruit to taste.

Slice at an angle finger width slices down the sides of the pastry and working from one side the the other place the first strip of pastry over the fruit then one from the other side of the pastry again over the fruit, keep going until you have a plait effect all down the fruit, tuck the little flap of pastry at each end over securing with a little beaten egg or milk.

Brush the top with broken egg or milk and scatter with granulated sugar.

Pop into the middle of your oven and bake for 25-30mins until golden and crisp.

Delicious with custard, ice cream or cream.
